Reading Time: 2 mins 53 secs || Peace The Warrior | Fighting through tough times
“Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7
This has always been one of my go-to scriptures. Every time I read it, there’s this sense of calm and peace that comes with it. A strong assurance that God’s got me. It was even one of the scriptures I shared in the post where I talked on scriptures for when overwhelmed
A couple of weeks ago, I was studying my bible when I came across those verses again. This time I saw it in a new light. The part that struck me in the verse was “the peace of God” will “Keep”. It hit me, Hold Up! Peace can fight!? For peace to keep my heart from worry and anxiety, it’s also strong enough to hold back everything that wants to cause them. This was a mind-blowing revelation to me.
So, I dug further. I pulled out my bible concordance to get a thorough understanding. The greek word for ‘keep’ is phroureo meaning to be a watcher, to mount guard, and to protect. It is also compared to a garrison.
I realized there is a side of peace I didn’t know of. I thought peace would be quiet, gentle like a dove or the calm soothing wind. I even have a tattoo of a dove on my wrist *lol*
I remember bursting out in tongues, and at that moment there was a picture in my head. Imagine being in a tornado, but yet, you remain calm. This is how peace works. Peace is like a warrior protecting your heart, it attacks your problems. This peace keeps your heart through Jesus Christ. When it feels like you’re choking, and want to just give in, it keeps you from sinning. When the troubles come, it’s there to hold and stop you from sinking under them. Overwhelming feelings stand no chance because it is standing there, and keeping them at bay.Peace is like a warrior protecting your heart, it attacks your problems. So here’s the thing, Jesus creates the platform for this peace to remain when there is trouble in your life. Remember how Peter was so confused about the storm until he held on to his faith in Jesus? That’s the same way the holy spirit in you is always ready to help you weather any storm.
The peace of God is strong and wouldn’t let go. Whenever you feel down and the troubles seem so much, stand strong knowing that there is a warrior that has gone before you. Peace is a promise from God and if there’s anything I’m sure of is that God’s word is sure.
The peace of God that passes all human understanding will keep your heart.
The truth is, problems will come, and I can honestly relate. You might be doubting all this because you’ve been through so much already, and it seems like there’s no coming back for your heart but with Jesus, your heart can be restored.
I’m saying this because I’ve been there.
This year has been so emotionally draining for me. I’ve gone to bed in tears countless times. I’ve gone weeks with zero naira in my account and had to depend on my friends. Some Sundays I went to church not knowing how I’ll get back home.
What I did through all these was talk to my father and give him thanks. It took a lot to shift my mindset and focus that I’m always a winner regardless of what is going on around me. You know that song that says “If all I have is Jesus I have more than gold”? Yes! That song always reminds me that I’m a winner because I know that my eternal life is sure.
I’m choosing to share this because there’s so much going on in the world right now, and I know finding peace is what a lot of people are struggling with. I hope that what I learned in my Bible study and my testimony will help you be in the consciousness of the Peace of God.
Know that there’s a warrior peace guarding your heart – Peace the warrior.
